Wadadah seek win to improve placing
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Wadadah FC could move into mid table of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Runs Western Confederation competition today with a win over cellar dwellers Duanvale FC at the UDC Field in Montego Bay.
If the champions can win back-to-back games for the first time this season, after beating Norwood Strikers 4-2 at the same venue last week, they would move to joint fifth place along with Tomorrow’s People, who beat promoted Montego Bay Boys’ Club 4-1 yesterday, also at the UDC field.
Donville Cornwall scored twice for Tomorrow’s People to take over the goalscoring lead with eight to lead his team to their third win, while extending Boys’ Club’s winless streak to three games.
Cornwall got Tomorrow’s People off to a fast start, scoring in the fourth minute, while Cleon Barrett in the 36th, and Dalkeith McPherson on the stroke of half-time gave them a 3-0 cushion at the interval.
Boys Club came out the much more purposeful team in the second half and pressured Tomorrow’s People, earning a goal from Dwayne Powell in the 58th minute.
Cornwall scored his second on a quick counter-attack in the 72nd minute, when he outran the Boys’ Club defence down the right flank and shot powerfully into the far corner.
Boys’ Club were denied a second goal when a header from Androcle Poyser that appeared headed for the goal was interferred with by a teammate who was in an offside position.
