Jamalco beat Hampshire ‘A’ in Open League netball
REIGNING champions Jamalco defeated Hampshire ‘A’ 25-15 as the 2014 Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS)/Netball Jamaica Sunshine Open League competition continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last weekend.
The Winston Nevers-coached Clarendon-based aggregation with key players captain Marsha Murphy-Dawkins and Naudia Brown leading the way, did enough to beat their opponents on Sunday.
Jamalco had earlier beaten Sports and Games 23-14 to add to their previous Saturday’s 34-20 win over Leiba Gardens. It was their third win from as many games, and it pushed them to the top of Group Two with nine points.
Meanwhile, Molynes ‘A’ beat newcomers Queen’s Park 22-11 and Liguanea United ‘A’ 23-16 for their second win on Sunday. They have six points in Group One.
The University of the West Indies (UWI) Pelicans chalked up two wins on Saturday, beating Link United 34-9, and Blades United ‘B’ 32-8 to stay in contention in Group Six.
Blades United ‘A defeated both Alexander Strikers ‘A’, 34-5, and Drewsland ‘B’, 32-4, to move to the top of Group Four with nine points from three outings.
Alpha ‘A scored two wins on Sunday by defeating Ebony Strikers, 33-7, and Payne Land, 26-12, to take the early lead in Group Six with nine points from three matches.
Other results of matches played on Sunday were: Waulgrovians ‘A’ beat Red Challenge 23-12; Leiba Gardens outscored Top Mountain 25-17; Hampshire ‘B’ whipped Jetsetters ‘B’ 20-2; Ken’s Wild Flower brushed aside Greenwich 38-9; Rivoli United ‘A’ beat Drewsland ‘A’ 25-10.
