IF Waterhouse FC were beaten 3-0 by an Arnett Gardens team that is only 60 per cent fit, then the rest of the league will be in trouble when coach Jerome Waite gets his charges fully fit and raring to go.

Following their impressive trouncing of Waterhouse, Waite, who is renowned for being a fitness guru, said there are still more room for improvement.

Said Waite: “Overall the fitness level is up to about 65 per cent. Tactically the midfield (players) still need to work out how to play the system. It’s a work in progress, but overall, I can give them a 55 for performance.”

The towering Newton Sterling rifled in a low free kick in the 10th minute for his seventh goal of the season. The wily Vishinul Harris weaved his way into the box and fired home in the 69th minute before substitute Kamal Malcolm put the icing on the cake with an angled screamer in the 75th minute.

“It was a pretty good performance, but there is still room for improvement defensively and in our concentration. People have it to say that Arnett Gardens are hot and cold. Today, we made it two consecutive wins,” said Waite.

Arnett Gardens jumped three places to sixth on 18 points following their fifth win from 14 games, their highest placing this season.

Waterhouse remained in third spot on 21 points but are now nine points adrift of leaders Harbour View, and coach Junior Francis blames the absence of key players for their demise.

“Today we weren’t at full strength with a lot of injuries to the team but nevertheless, we tried to use some players to step up to the plate but it never happened,” Francis said.

Harbour View remained on top of the League on 30 points. That lead was slashed to four points after battling to a 1-1 draw away to Cavalier.

Coach of Harbour View Harold Thomas says his side is suffering from knocks to creative players which was clearly demonstrated in the match against Cavalier.

“We operated with less than good numbers and some of our regular players. I thought we had enough in it to carry home three points. We got the first goal but gave up a soft goal,” Thomas told the Observer.

It was this result that irked Cavalier’s coach David Lalor who thought his team deserved to win against a team they consider to be their ‘bogey’ team.

“I think it was a good game. Harbour View is one of the teams on top of the league and I think we had the better run of them. But again we need to find that clincher where we can put away Harbour View. They have been the team that has been our greatest nightmare. They have beaten us with the biggest margins of scores, but one day we will get them. Maybe next round,” Lalor said.

Montego Bay United clipped Tivoli Gardens 1-0 to stay second on 26 points, while Portmore United edged August Town 1-0 in the bottom of the table clash.
