Perfect first round for Spot Valley
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — Spot Valley High completed a perfect first round in the ISSA/KFC Western Conference High Schools Boys Under-16 basketball competition on Tuesday after beating hosts William Knibb Memorial 47-19.
Jhamonique Brown and Desran Harris both combined for 32 of Spot Valley’s points as they confirmed their number one seed going into the semi-finals.
William Knibb exacted some amount of revenge in the Under-19 game, however, with a big 92-26 win over Spot Valley to finish the schedule on 11 points, one less than defending champions Muschett High, who they will now avoid in the semi-finals.
In the Under-16 game, Brown scored 22 points and Harris added 10 and eight rebounds as Spot Valley led 8-4, 21-10 and 29-15 at the intervals.
The Under-19 was one way traffic for the high-scoring William Knibb team that was led by Shavaughn Reid’s 34 points; Alwayne Smith scored 21 points, while Daniel Henry had a triple double (15 points), 10 rebounds, 14 assists and eight steals.
Alwyn Newsome was the only Spot Valley player to get into double figures in scoring with 10 points along with eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.
