Leaders Holland, Reno hunt back-to-back wins
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Joint leaders Holland United and Reno FC will go in search of back-to-back wins today when the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rums Western Confederation Super League continues with four games.
Holland United opened their quest for a first-ever title with a 4-0 win over fellow Trelawny club Duanvale, while Reno FC brushed aside former champions Village United 4-1.
Today Holland face Village at the Elliston Wakeland Centre, while Reno FC will be home to Tomorrow’s People at Frome.
In other games, defending champions Wadadah FC travel to Crocs Land playfield to face promoted Sandals Whitehouse, while promoted teams Dunavale and Lucea FC will meet at Duanvale.
All games will start at 3:00 pm.
Holland United, who were impressive in the early season, making it to the second round of the Flow Champions Cup Knockout before bowing out to Premier League team Montego Bay United, will be seeking a second straight win over the former Premier League team after beating them 3-0 in a cross-zone game last season.
Reno FC, who were beaten in the final last season, will have their hands full with Tomorrow’s People who came back to earn a 1-1 draw with Wadadah at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
Reno FC were unbeaten at home all of last season and will be hoping to extend their run to nine straight games today despite facing a hard running Tomorrow’s People team.
Reno FC have basically the same team as last year’s when they topped the points tables at the end of the preliminary rounds and nothing but a semi-final place will be good enough for them.
Donville Cornwall, who was the leading scorer last season, will again lead the Tomorrow’s People attack along with Christopher Dyer and Asion Morris.
Wadadah FC have a young team, including four players who played daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football this season and will be hoping to get their first win against the Aaron Lawrence-coached Sandals Whitehouse.
Lucea got off to a nervous start on Sunday, but managed to match Savannah SC in the second half and, if they can build on that momentum, should be able to get the better of Duanvale FC today.
