Pagon too hot for Angus in tennis Championships
SECOND-SEEDED Dominic Pagon brushed aside ninth-seed Eric Angus in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2013 JN Fund Managers Men’s Open Singles Tennis Championships at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston on Wednesday night.
Pagon, runner-up last year to Damion Johnson, showed no mercy on his opponent, unleashing fast returns from the baseline, shots down the line and powerful serves.
The hard-hitting left-handed Pagon, despite dominating the match, saw Angus playing some neat shots and returns, but he could not withstand the powerful approach of the second seed who wrapped both sets convincingly.
After his easy win Pagon said he played a very solid game, and feeling very good the way he approach the match.
“I used a lot of kick-serves and set up my opponent to produce my shots because he is a left-handed player as myself,” Pagon said.
He said the scores does not proved a reflection of the match as he made me work hard, as some points were long as a results of long rallies.
“The point is that I played the important point wherever the opportunities come,” said Pagon.
Pagon will be action in this evening in the quarter-finals against seventh-seed Brenton White.
Meanwhile, top seed Johnson produced another fine performance by to eliminate 10th seed Gaywane Coxx in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. He faces Matthew Rodriques in his quarter-finals today.
