Queen’s eye all-island trophy
THE Queen’s School will be making another attempt to conquer all as they go in search of the all-island title in the 2013 ISSA/Digicel
High Schoolgirls Junior and Senior League this afternoon at Manchester High School.
Queen’s, who are this year’s Urban Area High Schoolgirls Junior and Senior League champions, respectively, are ready to claim both national crowns. The Juniors are scheduled to begin at 1:30 and the Seniors at 2:30.
The Marvette Anderson-coached red-and-white-clad Juniors have lost only one game this season, while the Seniors are going great guns, having won all their matches.
They have tried on several occasions to capture both titles, but were unsuccessful, only winning
the Juniors.
This time around, however, coach Anderson is confident that the St Andrew-based girls can turn the tables on their Rural Area champions. The Queen’s were beaten by Holmwood in the Senior section.
After capturing the Urban Area Junior and Senior League title, respectively, last week, coach Anderson said she was ready for
the All-Island titles.
Although Holmwood are the current holders of the All-Island Senior League crown, Queen’s, with the trio of national players Shanice Beckford, Khadijah Williams and goalkeeper Shemera Sterling, will be a tough opponent.
Should shooters Beckford and Williams capitalise on scoring opportunities and Sterling defend well, Queen’s couldhave the
upper hand.
“The ball is round and anything can happen… it should be a very tough and close match with defending champions Holmwood,” Anderson said.
She further said the girls are confident and would like to claim the All-Island Senior League crown for the first time.
