Meany stages successful solo art show
ROUND HILL, Hanover — Scores of connoisseurs of the visual arts turned up to view pieces by talented painter Sarah Meany at the hosting of her inaugural art show, entitled Kaleidoscope, held at the Round Hill Hotel last week.
“It’s my first solo exhibition, a mixed-piece show entitled Kaleidoscope,” the budding artist told the Jamaica Observer West.
“The idea behind Kaleidoscope is that art is a multi- faceted thing and depending on the viewer they will see a million things in one piece and every viewer will behold the art in a different way and a different manner.”
Among the patrons viewing the fine pieces of art on show were the US President press secretary Jay Carney and his wife Claire Shipman, an American television journalist, currently the senior national correspondent for the ABC programme, Good Morning America.
Meany, who is an art teacher at Junior Prep in Montego Bay and who says she has been painting for as long as she can remember, told Observer West that the 24 pieces created with acrylic on canvas and chalkcoal on pastel, were done over a six-month period.
” The entire show was formulated around the signature piece which is actually called Kaleidoscope,” said Meany, who described her maiden show as a success.
She added that of the 24 pieces, 14 were sold out and nine commissioned.
Art enthusiast Taihi Becker was impressed with the show.
“Each painting talked to me about life. Nature and all its elements were reflected in the colours and images she painted,” said Becker, adding that her favourite pieces were Ethereal and Safe Bet.
Meanwhile, when the art enthusiasts in attendance were not viewing the pieces of work by the gifted painter, they mingled outside, under the blue skies- decorated with bright stars- which illuminated the well- manicured lawns at the elegant Round Hill Hotel.
