Clarendon College stay in hunt for Under-16 title
After clipping Manchester High 2-1 last Friday, unbeaten Cornwall College will continue the defence of their all-island ISSA/Wata Under-16 title when the quarter-final round continues this afternoon when hey host Annotto Bay High in Group A in one of four games scheduled.
The other quarter-final games scheduled today will see Paul Bogle hosting Manchester High, Petersfield at home to STETHS and Rusea’s welcoming Seaforth.
In other games quarter-final games, Annotto Bay beat Paul Bogle 2-0, STETHS overcame Ruseas High 2-0 and Seaforth were beaten 2-0 by Petersfield High.
The quarter-finals of the Under-14 also got underway with four games where the top two from each of the two zones in both competitions will advance to the semi-finals set to be played Monday, December 9. The final is set for three days later.
Manchester High and Petersfield are represented in both age groups.
In Friday’s games, Spauldings were beaten 0-2 by Grange Hill, Old Harbour thrashed Clarendon College 4-0, Petersfield did the double with a 2-0 win over Manchester High and Vere and Munro College drew 2-2.
In the Under-14 competition, Grange Hill High, Petersfield, Manchester High, Spalding High, Old Harbour High and Vere Technical all won their respective second round groups.
Clarendon College, who were second to Spalding, was the best second-placed team, while Munro who were second to Manchester High were the next best second-placed team.
In the Under-16, Cornwall College, Rusea’s High, St Elizabeth Technical, Manchester High, Annotto Bay High and Seaforth High were the group winners, while Paul Bogle High were the best second-placed team with Petersfield and Edwin Allen to decide the other ‘lucky loser’.
Favourites Cornwall College, last year’s national Under-16 champions, won all three games in the second round with a 6-0 aggregate, beating Green Island 3-0, Petersfield 2-0 and newcomers Steer Town 1-0 to top their zone with maximum nine points.
The third and final round of games in the quarter-finals will be played on Thursday.
