CSKA Moscow 1-3 Bayern Munich
Defending champions Bayern Munich almost certainly wrapped up top spot in Champions League Group D with a 3-1 victory over CSKA Moscow at Khimki Arena.
An efficient performance in front of goal ensured Bayern did not slip up in the snowy conditions as Arjen Robben, Mario Gotze and a Thomas Muller penalty did the damage. Victory was Bayern’s 10th in a row in the competition to beat Barcelona’s previous record from 2002.
It was their third broken record of the year after going more games unbeaten than anyone in Bundesliga history and winning the title last season earlier than any German team had in the past.
Gotze’s goal was the pick of the bunch as he waltzed through the Russian defence, beating five players in total before firing low and hard into the bottom corner.
CSKA created enough chances to take something from the game, but only had a contentious Keisuke Honda penalty to show for their efforts as their bid to tie down a Europa League place was delayed.
Juventus went from bottom to second in Group B after Arturo Vidal scored at hat-trick against FC Copenhagen.
The Chilean midfielder scored twice from the penalty spot in the 3-1 win to put the Italians in pole position to qualify behind Real Madrid.
Shakhtar Dontesk overtook Bayer Leverkusen in Group A but face Manchester United in their final game at Old Trafford as they look to cement their qualification.
The Ukranians beat struggling Real Sociedad 4-0 thanks to goals from Luiz Adriano, Alex Teixiera and two from Douglas Costa.
Benfica improved their prospects of joining Paris St Germain in qualifying from Group C after beating Anderlecht 3-2 in Brussels.
Chancel Mbemba and Massimo Bruno scored for Anderlecht, but Nemanja Matic, an Mbemba own goal, and Moreno Rodrigo’s 90th-minute low finish earned three points for the Portuguese visitors. Benfica moved level on points with Olympiacos in the battle for second place, after the Greek side lost 2-1 in Paris.
