Arsenal U19 1 Marseille U19 1
Arsenal’s youngsters were made to settle for a point in the UEFA Youth League against their Marseille counterparts ahead of the senior sides’ clash on Tuesday.
Kris Olsson equalised from the spot for the Gunners six minutes before the break after Antoine Kisaku had put the visitors ahead.
Arsenal were camped in their own half for much of the first-half before Kisaku’s strike, only to equalise when Chupa Akpom was pulled down to hand Olsson the chance from the spot.
Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden made matters worse for Steve Gatting’s Gunners side by getting sent off for a kick out at Kisaku just before the break.
Marseille’s numerical advantage didn’t last long, however, when the French side’s Zinedine Machach was also dismissed for a high tackle on scorer Olsson just after half-time.
The lively Akpom tried in vain for a Gunners winner as the second half petered out, but Marseille stopper Florian Escales ensured the visitors left with a point.
The Gunners youth side still sit top of Group F, but must wait until Tuesday to see if Napoli can snatch a result at Dortmund to make it through to the knockout stages.
