‘Generals’ march on in LIME Cup golf tourney
THE Advantage Generals stormed to the top of the LIME Cup team match-play golf competition leaderboard, while defending champions Springs suffered their first defeat this season, as the business end of the tournament looms.
Only one round of preliminary action remains and at least three teams will enter Sunday’s final match day with a realistic chance of finishing in the top two and securing a spot in the final.
With the equally picturesque and challenging Cinnamon Hill Golf course forming the backdrop for rounds three and four last Sunday, the Advantage Generals, who won the title in 2011, exacted some revenge for last year’s defeat in the trophy round at the hands of the Springs, with a 8-2 win in Round three’s two-person better ball format.
The Advantage Generals later dismantled the SportsMax MaxPak 9-1 in the following round to add 19 points to their tally, which now stands at 31.0 — two more than two-time champions the Appleton Buccaneers (29.0), with the Springs (23.5) all feeling positive about their chances to finish in the top two with the SportsMax MaxPak (19.5) staying within striking distance.
Red Stripe Legends (13.5) and the LIME Lions (11.5) complete the table.
The Appleton Buccaneers are looking for their first title since 2010 and they kept in touch with 16 points on the day, tagging the LIME Lions 10-0 in round three before sparring 5-5 with the Springs in round four.
In the other round three result, the SportsMax MaxPak and the Red Stripe Legends shared the spoils in a 5-5 tie.
Round four also saw the LIME Lions and the Red Stripe Legends sharing a 5- 5 scorecard.
The region’s top team match-play golf tournament will head to the Caymanas Golf Club, on November 24, for the playing of round five as well as the final.
The Advantage Generals will be looking to make the most of their match-up with the LIME Lions in round five, with the Appleton Buccaneers playing the Red Stripe Legends and the SportsMax MaxPak facing the Springs.
