Manchester, STETHS meet in Group Two decider
MANCHESTER High and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) will bring the curtains down on the second-round of the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area Senior League netball competition when they meet in a mega clash today in Santa Cruz, starting 11:00 am.
Both teams, spurred by four successive wins, have already booked their places in the quarter-finals, but are tied at the top of Group Two on 12 points apiece. Today’s meeting will therefore be used to decide the group winners, who will meet the second-placed team from Group Three — widely expected to be Edwin Allen High.
Despite being tied on points, the Simone Smith-coached Manchester were by far more ruthless than STETHS in their second-round previous fixtures, averaging over 50 goals per game to STETHS average 42.
But with two teams who are clearly eyeing a run for the title, those statistics might well prove irrelevant in this top-of-the-table clash.
Another important Senior League encounter pits Edwin Allen against Old Harbour High at Clarendon Park.
Going into this fixture, Edwin Allen are ahead on points and need only a point against Old Harbour to clinch the last available quarter-final spot from Group Three.
The game is scheduled to tip off at midday.
In other Under-19 games, Titchfield play Marymount at CASE in Portland, Bishop Gibson tackle Hampton at STETHS, while champions Holmwood Technical, already through to the last eight, will spar with Glenmuir High at Clarendon Park.
