Hayes residents become IT-certified
MAY PEN, Clarendon — The first cohort of graduates who completed a six-week course in Information Technology at the Wembley Centre of Excellence (COE) was presented with certificates of completion at a recent graduation.
According to a news release, the 27 residents, who hail from communities in Hayes, underwent written and practical training and received their certification from HEART Trust/NTA which previously certified
the institution.
Speaking at the ceremony, which included the official opening of the computer lab, Jamalco’s Acting Managing Director (Corporate & Gov’t Affairs) Leo Lambert charged the students to cultivate an attitude that will lead to success and to identify their strengths and determine how they can use their newly acquired skill in a global village.
Lambert encouraged the graduates to maintain their integrity in their pursuit of excellence and to commit themselves to social renewal and entrepreneurship.
Manager of HEART Trust/NTA in charge of Clarendon Wayne Battiste said residents should pursue training in areas that will guarantee them jobs. Based on discussions with the management of the facility, he sees a bright future for other programmes such as Digital Animation and Call Centre Operations, said Battiste.
The students were also challenged by Charles Heholt of Amazing PC to use their new skill smartly. “Dare to dream and perspire. Have a vision and you should consider yourself worthy of becoming the next person who can make a difference,” he said.
Vice-chairman of the Wembley COE Lorine Cousins thanked Jamalco and the other sponsors for making the centre and the computer lab a reality. She said since the COE has been certified by the HEART Trust over 100 persons have registered for training in various skills.
The second batch of students has already started training at the Wembley COE.
