Tivoli clip August Town 1-0 to snap losing streak
TIVOLI Gardens FC clipped August Town FC 1-0 yesterday at the UWI Mona Bowl to end a two-game losing run in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football competition.
Andre Morgan scored the winner for Tivoli Gardens in the 65th minute with a side-footed finish from point blank range.
Both teams entered the game tied on points, but after the win, Tivoli Gardens moved to 13 and August Town remained on 10.
It was a second-straight home loss for August Town, after previously going down to Boys’ Town FC in a 0-2 finish.
Tivoli head coach Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey praised his team’s approach and said August Town should have been behind from the first half.
“The morale was down heading into the game, but I think we played well. I spoke to them before about the commitment and guts that it takes. Today we did that, and we should have put the game away from the first half,” Bailey said.
August Town’s assistant coach Wayne Campbell saw his team miss a couple chances in the second half as they fought for the equaliser. Still, he was not overly critical of the way the team played.
“A lot of teams are gathering momentum and they are coming hard at us. Teams are taking August Town very seriously, and we are seeing the effects of that,” said Campbell.
