Sunfish caught in Jamaican waters
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Fisherman Desmond Phillips Sunday morning caught a sunfish off the shore of Boston Bay in Portland.
“Is the first I am seeing a fish like this, I don’t even know what type of fish is this. We were out by Boston Bay when he bite and it took us about an hour to take him on the boat,” Phillips told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“In taking it onto the boat … the boat filled up with water like it want capsize but the captain (Michael Grant) say ‘him not leaving it at sea’, it was great experience,” added Phillips.
Two years ago Phillips caught a marlin weighing over 500 pounds. Phillips’ sunfish is estimated to weigh about 800 pounds.
Research reveals that the fish is a delicacy in Japan and Korea and can weigh up to 2000 pounds.
