Nicholson attends Commonwealth heads confab
FOREIGN Affairs Minister AJ Nicholson is expected to return from Sri Lanka on Wednesday, where he attended the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo. The meetings were held under the theme Growth with Equity: Inclusive Development, which was so coined to allow for discussion on the challenges facing Commonwealth Member States in achieving sustainable development and growth that is people centred and inclusive. Among the issues discussed were small state debt, climate resilient funding for development and the Ramphal report on border crossings.
Agenda items included:
* Solutions to the debt-challenges of small states, and
* The ability of climate vulnerable states to access financing for climate-resilient development.
Prior to the CHOGM itself, Minister Nicholson was expected to participate in the Meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG).
Minister Nicholson is accompanied on the trip by Aloun Assamba, Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
