Waterhouse ‘Flow’ at Champions Cup awards ceremony
WATERHOUSE walked away with the major spoils at the 2013 Flow Champions Cup prize-giving ceremony held at the Jamaica Football Federation offices in Kingston on Tuesday.
Waterhouse registered their third hold on the trophy in 10 stagings.
Apart from taking home $1 million for winning the coveted Flow Champions Cup, they also clinched the Most Valuable Player and Top Goal-Scorer awards that went to midfielder Romario Campbell, who scored four goals. Campbell pocketed $120,000.
Waterhouse’s Junior Francis also pulled in $50,000 as the winning coach.
Three-time winners and defending champions Tivoli Gardens, who were in search of a fourth title but had to settle for the runners-up slot, carried off $400,000, while defeated semi-finalists Arnett Gardens and Harbour View each collected $200,000.
Quarter-finalists Sporting Central Academy, Axum Sports Club, Montego Bay and Portmore United each took home cash prizes of $90,000.
The competition, which commenced on Wednesday, September 11, and ended on Monday, October 28, saw a total of 26 teams, comprising the 12 Premier League clubs and the 14 parish knockout champions of the 2012-2013 season.
A total of 83 goals were scored in the 25 games at an average of 3.3 compared to an average of 2.4 goals per game scored when the competition was last held in 2011.
During the competition, 83 cards were issued — 70 yellow and 13 red for a combined average of 3.3 per game.
Tivoli Gardens FC accounted for the most cards — 12 yellow and one red. No cards were issued to Savannah FC, Rockfort FC, Exchange FC and Eagle Strikers SC.
Tivoli Gardens topped the goalscoring chart with 13 goals.
The straight knockout format of the competition added to its excitement.
