Rivoli’s Williamson wins first CHEC Star Baller award
RIVOLI United’s central midfielder Raymond Williamson won the first China Harbour Engineering Company’s (CHEC) Star Baller of the Month award of the Red Stripe Premier League football season.
Williamson was nominated in three of the five games he played by the match officials between September and October for his outstanding work as a central midfielder, breaking up plays before they become a threat to his side while maintaining a clean disciplinary record.
CHEC Communications Manager Jennifer Armond, who was at the Harbour View/Waterhouse match, presented the $30,000 prize with keep- sake plaque.
“It is indeed a pleasure to return with this incentive offered to players who display outstanding performances for the month. The goal is to encourage them to increase their standard of play, contributing to their overall team results, while remaining disciplined in their effort,” said Armond.
International contractor China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), currently constructing the North- South Highway, linking Kingston and its environs to the north coast town of Ocho Rios, is a major sponsor for the National Premier League Football competition in the amount of US$250,000. The company chose to support football, through the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA), and additional promotional efforts, to offer opportunities to dedicated young men to the sport, while providing a means of healthy entertainment for people living in the urban and rural communities across Jamaica.
“Attending the weekly matches is an outdoor social activity enjoyed by many, and we are extremely pleased to assist in enabling it,” she pointed out.
Williamson, 26, made his name while playing for Tivoli Gardens a few seasons ago as a hard-working no-nonsense midfielder before moving to Highgate United and now Rivoli United.
Criteria for the “Star Baller of the Month” match characteristics that CHEC encourages on their construction sites where both Chinese and local workers have adopted the principles of being on time and working with their teams in a disciplined manner resulting in the projects wholly undertaken by CHEC being completed on time and within budget.
