Life’s a jungle for Jay Prince
JAY Prince is aiming to take his act internationally. The up-and-coming singjay is banking on the single Concrete Jungle.
Produced by Guilroy Stewart and Micah Henry of HDX Recording Studios, the track was released earlier this year.
He says the single describes the hardships associated with inner city living.
“Until one experiences it for themselves, one will never understand what a young man or woman endures daily living in the garrison,” said the artiste, whose given name is Prince Williams.
So with a cue from Bob Marley’s hit single of the same name, the 20-year-old penned his lyrics. He also recounts a tragic situation that will always stay with him.
“My brother, (Michael Williams), was an upcoming act called True Man Chew Stick from the Junior Ghetto Youths label. Music was his life and he had high hopes of becoming one of reggae’s finest. However, his dream was cut short in 2009 when he was gunned down in Swallowfield in Kingston,” he said.
“I was born and raised in the Love Lane community in downtown Kingston, so I was forced to write about what I see around me. Our addresses sometimes prevent us from getting jobs and too often are the residents stigmatised by others including the police,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Jay Prince’s other releases are Find A Way and Trample the Demon.
