‘Bora’ among inductees to World Football Hall of Fame
Former Reggae Boyz head coach Velibor ‘Bora’ Milutinovic was among a group of recognised “football greats” inducted in the World Football Hall of Fame in Pachuca, Mexico on Wednesday.
The others are Liberian former FIFA World Player of the Year George Weah, ex El-Salvador international Jorge Alberto ‘Magico’ Gonzalez, former Mexican football standours Adalberto Lopez, Alfredo Tena, Luis Fernando Tena and Rafael Garza Gutierrez.
Also among the honorees were former Italy and AC Milan greats Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini.
The only and first female inductee in the third edition of the hall of fame was former USA great Mia Hamm.
CONCACAF president Jeffrey Webb, who presented the instruments of induction to ‘Magico’ Gonzalez and Hamm, said the recipients “the pinnacle of this great sport of football, and who have impacted millions of people through their dedication and achievements”.
All inductees and other participants in the glitzy ceremony were on hand to see Mexico defeat New Zealand 5-1 at the feared Azteca in the inter-continental World Cup qualifying play-off for a spot to Brazil 2014. The return-leg of the two-way tie will be played in Wellington, New Zealand, on November 20.
