The Queen’s face St Catherine in big netball clash
DEFENDING champions The Queen’s School and St Catherine High will come face to face as they seek Group Two’s sole leadership in the 2013 ISSA/Digicel Urban Area High School Netball Senior League competition today at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 3:00 pm.
Both teams are still unbeaten and The Queen’s have six points, the same as St Catherine, with each school playing two matches.
The Marvette Anderson-coached Queen’s will welcome the return of three of their shooters — Khadijah Williams, Shanice Beckford and Shamera Sterling — who were on duty with the national senior netball team at the Fast Five Tournament in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, St Catherine’s coach Phyllis Thompson said it is going to be a very competitive game and the team who wants it more will be victorious.
“Queen’s is a pretty good team and they won’t be laying back and allow us to dominate. We expect them to play their usual tough game. We are working hard to get to the semi-finals,” Thompson said.
In Junior League action which starts at 1:30 pm, Group One leaders Norman Manley High will meet St Catherine High; Camperdown High will play St Hugh’s; Alpha Academy meet Gaynstead High.
Defending champions The Queen’s should chalk up their third straight win in the second round when they take on Meadowbrook High, while Hydel High will play Tarrant High at 2:15.
In Senior League action today, the Wayne Stewart-coached Camperdown High will take on the Delroy Johnson-coached Holy Childhood High, and Norman Manley High play the Bethune Morgan-coached Ardenne High at 2:15 pm.
The Roy Pryce-coached St Hugh’ High will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten streak when they go up against Excelsior High at 3:00 pm. They are in Group Two alongside champions The Queen’s and St Catherine, whom they will meet in their last two matches.
Other Senior League games on are St Jago High meeting Alpha Academy and Mona High taking on last year’s beaten finalist St Andrew High, starting at 3:15 pm.
