Canada sweep individual awards
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Beaten finalists Canada swept the individual awards of the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship that ended at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday.
The USA beat Jamaica 8-0 in the third place play-off match in the first game of a double-header.
The Canadians won the Fair Play award while their captain Jessie Fleming was named Most Valuable Player. Rylee Foster took the award for the best goalkeeper, while Marie-Mychele Metivier, who was subbed in the final, won the golden boot award for the Top Scorer with seven goals.
Meanwhile, Mexico defender Vanessa Flores was the only non-North American named in the all-tournament team following the finals.
Seven Canadians and three Americans were named by the technical committee.
The rest of the All-Star team is Canada’s Foster, Rachel Jones, Bianca St Georges, Fleming, Metivier, Easther Mayi Kith, and Emily Borgmann, while the Americans are Elisabeth Jean, Marley Canales and Zoe Redei.
