Muschett stun Manchester 2-0
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Muschett High signalled they were not in the competition to merely make up numbers after shocking Manchester High 2-0 at Jarrett Park as the quarter-finals of the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup football competition got under way yesterday.
Nickoy Anderson scored both goals for Muschett, three days after another brace had taken them to the top of the Inter-Zone group.
There were also wins for St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Garvey Maceo, while Frome and Green Island played out a 1-1 draw in their game.
Muschett, the Wakefield, Trelawny-based school that was advancing past the first round for the first time and advanced to the final eight after edging St James High on goal difference, got the better of the highly touted Manchester High, who were losing in the daCosta Cup for the first time this season.
They are tied on points at the top of the quarter-final group with Garvey Maceo, who beat Port Antonio High 2-1, as Ryan Scott and Enrico Ricketts got the goals.
STETHS are the leaders in their group after edging Marcus Garvey Technical 1-0 in Santa Cruz, thanks to a goal from Khesanio Hall.
In the first game at Jarrett Park, Leaton Galloway scored a last-minute penalty kick to salvage a draw for Green Island High against Frome Technical.
An error by the Green Island goalkeeper Junior Robinson and his defender allowed Jermaine Clarke, who was on the ground, to fire in a ball from just about four yards out in the 17th minute to give Frome the lead.
The game was briefly stopped in the second half after a swarm of bees sent players and others on the field scurrying out of their way.
