First face last in RSPL Round Seven
LEADERS Montego Bay United take on bottom-placed Portmore United at WespoW Park as the seventh round of the 2013-2014 Red Stripe Premier League football competition unfolds across the island today with five matches.
In other games, August Town, the only unbeaten team remaining in the 12-team competition, host second to last team Boys’ Town at the UWI Bowl; Arnett Gardens visit Prison Oval to face Rivoli United in the clash of the red and black-coloured teams; Cavalier travel to the Juici Patties Park in Clarendon to face Sporting Central Lion; and Tivoli Gardens host Humble Lion at the Edward Seaga Complex.
All games begin at 3:00 pm.
Montego Bay United lead the standing with 13 points and will look to add maximum points when they host bottom-placed Portmore United, who are struggling on a mere two points.
The St James team has managed convincing 2-0 (Sporting Central) and 3-0 (Rivoli United) home wins thus far this season, and though former champs Portmore United will report under new coach Calvin Lewis, who recently departed Arnett Gardens, the home side is expected to prove too good for a team that has tallied just a solitary goal in 540 minutes of football.
August Town have secured just two wins, including a surprise 2-0 thumping of then leaders Humble Lion at Effortville Community Centre last week, but they have exhibited the meanest defence, conceding a league-low three goals.
On the other hand Boys’ Town, though displaying their usual grit and determination, have displayed a leaky defence, having allowed eight strikes, only better than Sporting Central, who have allowed in 10.
However, on the day just about any number could play in a game of this nature.
There is not much between the Rivoli United/Arnett Gardens match-up, though Arnett Gardens have shown a propensity to score goals, having notched nine, second only to Montego Bay United.
Former champions Cavalier have been holding their own and their visit to Clarendon Park could see them squeezing out another point of three, while Tivoli Gardens are desperate for a breakout game, and what better team to do so against than Humble Lion.
