Top seeds remain perfect in rural netball
THERE were no surprises in the latest set of second-round games in the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area Junior and Senior League netball competitions, with top seeds Holmwood Technical, Manchester, STETHS, Denbigh, and Titchfield all scoring comfortable victories yesterday.
The defending Junior League champions STETHS picked up an easy result at Moneague College, scoring a 21-6 victory over St Hilda’s in Group Two, who also had winners in Frome — 29-15 against Montego Bay High.
In Group One, Anchovy handed Lacovia their second defeat in as many games, 32-19; Herbert Morrison Technical got by Petersfield 32-21, while STETHS beat Ocho Rios 18-5.
In Group Three, Denbigh beat Yallahs 33-20; Knox College were 29-14 winners over Edwin Allen, while Charlemont defeated Oracabessa 29-19.
Holmwood were comfortable victors against Claude McKay in Group Four, beating the Clarendon school 40-8 in Chapelton. In that same group, Glenmuir outscored Titchfield 15-12, while St Mary High got off the mark with a 29-18 win over Tacius Golding. St Mary drew their first game against Glenmuir 24-all.
May Day were awarded three points for their game against Mount Alvernia, who withdrew from the Junior League competition.
Meanwhile, Senior League champions Holmwood turned in another big performance, 77-10, to power past Clarendon College, who were losing their second successive game, at Clarendon Park.
The Christiana-based school were joined by Portlanders Titchfield High as the only other team to win two games in Group Four, when they beat Glenmuir 26-13 at The Queen’s School. Also at The Queen’s, Marymount rebounded from Wednesday’s defeat to Glenmuir with a 23-15 win over Charlemont.
At the Montego Bay Cricket Club in St James, Manning’s pipped William Knibb 29-28 in Group One, while Anchovy got by Hampton 26-24, and Bishop Gibson thrashed Albert Town 44-25.
In St Ann, Manchester High, the favourite for Group Two’s top spot, turned back Mount Alvernia 56-25 for their second win, while STETHS and Frome Tech also notched respective victories over Ocho Rios High and Muschett.
STETHS were 38-14 winners over Ocho Rios, while Muschett were beaten 5-34 by Frome.
Former champions Denbigh High maintained their 100 per cent win record in Group Three following a huge 59-10 victory against Yallahs at The Queen’s. Also in Group Three, Edwin Allen stopped Knox 32-25, while Old Harbour played out a 22-22 tie with St Mary High, who were earning their first point.
