Alliance Buccaneers golf tourney tees off today
THE Alliance Buccaneers Memorial Golf Tournament was launched on Wednesday at the Laws Street Trading Centre in downtown, Kingston.
The fifth renewal of the tournament will tee-off today and tomorrow at the Caymanas Golf Club with tee times between 7:00 am and 1:00 pm each day.
The tournament features two different competitions running concurrently. One will be a two-day 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier, while the other, to be played tomorrow, will be a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fundraiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.
The target this year is $800,000.
According to tournament director, David Mais, some of the golfers who will be on the course are professionals, Ewan Peebles, Paul Warren, Wesley Brown and Fabian Campbell; super seniors Gordon Hutchinson (former president of the JGA), Maurice Foster and new category entrants Peter Chin and Teddy Richards; seniors Wayne Chai Chong (president of JGA), Robert ‘Bobby’ Chin, Rory Jardine, Gregg Chong and Tommy Lee; Paul Thompson and Radcliffe Knibbs; Jodi Munn Barrow and Maggie Lyn; juniors Khai Harris and Tiana Cruz.
Prize money for the pros this year is $150,000.
This year’s competition is the 18th staging of the Buccaneers Memorial Tournament and is being played in memory of five of Jamaica’s outstanding past national representatives, Milton ‘Buddy’ Josephs, Izette Rhone, Lenan Lennie Chin, John Fulford and Al Chong.
