Toddler died from blunt force trauma to head
OCHO RIOS, St Ann — A post-mortem conducted on the body of a 22-month-old toddler revealed that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
The child, Eshauna Gardner, who was found unconscious on the night of Wednesday, October 30, died later in hospital.
A male relative, who it was alleged had beaten the child, was subsequently arrested by the police, but is yet to be charged. Police said a question-and-answer session was being arranged for the suspect, who is currently without legal representation.
Residents claimed that they had heard screams of a child coming from the home of the suspect in Dean’s Pen, St Mary and summoned the police. The suspect reportedly told the police that the child fell into a fire and got burnt. However, when the child was taken to the hospital, a doctor’s report showed that she received injuries from a beating. She died around 11:00 pm.
The suspect, who had fled the scene, on Friday, November 1 informed the police about his whereabouts and was later arrested.
