St Cecelia ready to roll again
St Cecelia, the reigning Horse-of-the-Year and holder of the most consecutive wins (14) in the annals of local racing, is burning up the exercise track for her next and probably her final run in the TALAWAH Sprint over six furlongs scheduled to be run next Saturday as part of the Superstakes programme.
Trainer of the seven-year-old mare Spencer Chung confirmed that St Cecelia is back to her best when she blazed her five-furlong work on Sunday morning in 58.4 seconds. “She (St Cecelia) is back to her very best. She is happy, she worked very well, I am pleased and I am looking forward to an excellent run on Saturday in the Sprint.”
The trainer admitted that in her last two races when she was defeated by Blast Them Away, St Cecelia was not at her very best, hence her somewhat lacklustre performances.
Chung further stated that this might well be the last race for St Cecelia and urged racing fans who have not seen her run to be present at the racetrack for Superstakes Day.
“I am 80 per cent sure this may be the last time St Cecelia will run. Although I have never looked at her as a broodmare as she is all racehorse, the time is coming when she will have to make that trip to the breeding shed and of course we would like to go out in a blaze of glory,” Chung said, adding that after the Sprint a final decision will be taken on St Cecelia’s future.
