CATHERINE HALL, St James — Hosts Jamaica will go in search of their second win which would all but secure their place from Group A to the semi-finals of the fourth CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship at the Montego Bay Sports Complex starting at 6:00 pm.

Jamaica lead the Group with three points after beating El Salvador 2-0 on Wednesday, while Haiti and Mexico had played out a 1-1 draw in the day’s opener.

In the first game of today’s double-header, El Salvador and Mexico will seek to keep their hopes of advancing alive when they clash at 3:00 pm.

In Wednesday’s game, Florida-based Reggae Girl Asia Lee-Fatt scored both goals for Jamaica on Wednesday as the team missed a number of scoring chances against what is arguably the weakest team in the group and expectations are high for a tougher game tonight against a hard-running Haitian team.

Head coach Merron Gordon told the Jamaica Observer that with “hard work and dedication” he thinks “we will get our three points”.

He added that the coaching staff was pleased with Wednesday’s display as the girls “stuck to the game plan”.

“It was a good performance by the girls, they possessed the ball, we were very well-organised defensively,” Gordon pointed out.

He said the first half where the team missed several good scoring chances might have come down to nerves.

“That is football for you, even at the very top level chances will be missed,” he said. “At half-time, we told them to settle down, it might have been nerves as some of them were playing in front of the home crowd for the first time,” Gordon added.

In addition to Lee-Fatt who showed good goal-poaching instincts, Robyn-Ann Whittaker and Felecia Davidson, peppered the El Salvador defence for most of the evening, and should the Jamaicans repeat their good first-match form today, they could very well be on their way to the semi-finals.
