Morris, Hutchinson shoot sub-par rounds at Cinnamon Hill
THE Heroes’ weekend was the backdrop for an exciting 36 holes of golf at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course.
Sean Morris made good use of home course knowledge, shooting two strokes under par (70) to take the lead on the first day. Morris picked up 10 additional stokes on day two of the Championship to tie with Robert Chin (77, 73).
In the resulting play-off, Morris birdied hole number one ahead of Chin, who parred the hole. Morris captured the title of Overall Champion, while Chin emerged the Senior Champion.
Rory Jardine took the top prize in the 0-6 category with 159 strokes. Finishing with the same score, Ricardo Perry had to be content with second, based on Jardine having the better back 18 round.
Montego Bay-based Vinroy Dell took top honours in the 7-11 category with 164 (78, 86) over the two days. Nigel Davy was second with 169. In the 12-17 category, Don Gary finished first with 170 (80, 90).
Gordon Hutchinson, JGA past president created excitement on the course by shooting the same score as his number of years. Hutchinson shot 11 pars, five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey to end Sunday’s round with 70 — two shots under par.
On the first day, he scored 83. His total of 153 netted him the title of Super Senior Champion. National representatives Fred Sutherland and Dennis Atkinson finished first and second in the 0-12 Super Senior category with rounds of 164 and 165, respectively.
The newest recruit to the Super Senior category, Teddy Richards, was first with 163 (80, 83) in the 13-18 group. Khaleel Azan copped first place, ahead of Carlyle Hudson in the 19-24 group. Both men finished with 186 and 199, respectively.
Jodi Barrow won the ladies’ title with 155 (74, 81) strokes. Michele Gabay finished first with 160 (76, 84) in the 0-12 section. Dianne Hudson ended the tournament on 212, finishing first in the 13-24 handicap category.
Jordan Lowe (167) emerged the winner of the Boys’ 16-17 category after a six-hole play-off with Sandals-based Romaine Evans (167). Ethan Jones took the honour in the 14-15 segment with 181. In the Boys’ 11-13, Sebert Walker, Jr beat Jack Stein in a one-hole play-off. Both had 165 strokes after two days of play.
Katarina Lai (222), finished ahead of her sister Evelyn Lai (246) in the Girls’ 11-13 group.
Don Patterson emerged the nett winner among the one-day entries with 73. Sharon Smith was first in the Ladies’ with a nett score of 80.
