Big Bad Links by disqualification
The Hi-Pro Equi-Pro trophy race for two year olds over six-and-a-half furlong on the Heroes Day card at Caymanas Park yesterday was decided by the stewards.
They disqualified winner All Correct (Dick Cardenas) and promoted second Big Bad Links (Omar Walker) who finished second to first place. It was a stirring stretch duel involving the two horses and the jockeys with All Correct just able to get the job done. Immediately after the race, the disqualification sign went up, followed closely by a rider’s objection. The outcome via the stewards’ room, Big Bad Links (Traditional – Victoria) the winner with All Correct second and the howling 1/9 favourite Talented Tony K third.
Earlier on the programme Rum Punch underlined his emerging class with a good performance, racing and winning at the Overnight Allowance grade for the first time. With Cardenas in the saddle, Rum Punch stalked leader Hombre for most of the race before stretching out nicely in the straight to defeat Hombre (Andre Martin) by two lengths. Uncle Donny (Shane Ellis) was third.
Walker broke his drought of winners when he piloted home debutante Moon Shadow, to move four wins ahead of his challenger Dane Nelson who was winless on the day. Walker went to five ahead after he was awarded the aforementioned race by the stewards on Big Bad Links.
