Trophies galore on Heroes’ Day at the Park
THE Hi-Pro Equi-Pro Trophy highlights a 10-race Heroes Day card at Caymanas Park today. Also carded are a number of other trophy races that include the Heroes Day Stakes, the Ace Super Centre Trophy and the Norman Manley Memorial Cup.
The Hi-Pro Trophy, formerly the Hi-Pro Stables Choice Feed Trophy, is a maiden special weight contest for native-bred two-year-olds going 1,300 metres and serves as a conditioner for the longer races during the Two-year-Old Classic season.
Normally well supported, the Hi-Pro Equi-Pro Trophy, which offers a purse of $1,100,000, has attracted a field of 11 runners headlined by Talented Tony K, a well bay colt that has been impressive at exercise and looks hard to oppose.
Owned by Jigzy Blades and trained by Lorne Kirlew, Talented Tony K is certainly no sprinter and according to the quality of performance he gives in his debut event then, he will be seen to have great advantage in the remaining two legs of the native-bred Two-Year-Old triple series.
By Traditional-Ocean Liner (Law Of The Sea) and bred by Donald Williams, Talented Tony K is a half-brother to Right Marker and has been going through his paces on the track fluently to give the indication that he could be something special and should get off the mark forthwith to return to the track to continue his preparation. Champion jockey Dane Nelson, who is making desperate bid to retain his jockey’s title, gets the call.
His main danger, if there are any, could come from the Wayne DaCosta pair of Also Correct ridden by Dick Cardenas and the well-bred debutante The Dictator ridden by claiming apprentice Holando Butler. Another who could make his presence felt is the Andrew McDonald-trained Big Bad Links to be ridden by leading jockey Omar Walker.
