ANANDA DEAN: A gift from God
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Wounds seem to reopen as relatives and friends of Ananda Dean marked five years since she was abducted and killed at a memorial service today at the Good Tidings Mennonite Church in Kingston.
Lisa Hanna, minister of youth and culture, representatives from the Office of the Children Registry gathered with family and friends of Ananda, reflecting on the young girl who would have turned 16 this year.
Persons cried openly as tributes were offered during the special service.
“It has been five years and it still hasn’t gotten easier. She was a special child, she was a gift from God,” said her emotional father Richard Dean.
Ananda was kidnapped and her body was discovered in September 2008. To date, no one has been charged for her murder.
