UDC awards scholarships
Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna and General Manager of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) Desmond Malcolm, chat with Myca McDonald (left) of Innswood High, Mwamba Steadman of Waterford High, and Shavelle Shaw of Wolmer’s Girls’, three UDC scholarship recipients. Twenty-nine children of UDC staff who sat the 2013 Grade Six Achievement Test were awarded scholarships totalling $290,000 on September 20 at an awards ceremony hosted by the UDC at the Jamaica Conference Centre. The children’s parents are employed at numerous sites across the island which are operated by the UDC, including Fort Clarence Beach, Roaring River Park, Ocho Rios Craft Market, Ocho Rios Bay Beach, Dunn’s River Falls & Park, Caymanas Golf & Country Club, and Bluefields Park.
