Walker, Subratie achieve significant racing milestones
THERE were two cup races on offer on the 10-race card yesterday at Caymanas Park, but the day belonged to jockey Omar Walker and trainer Gary Subratie, who both achieved significant racing milestones.
The win by Alisonbee in the third race provided Walker with his 700th career victory and for Subratie, the man who conquered Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday when he won that country’s Derby ,was he achieving his 400th career win.
In the feature Owen Silvera Memorial Cup over a mile for the open allowance company class, Commanding Chief, in a bold front-running effort from the half-mile, just held off the persistent challenge of Typewriter in the straight to score for the second time this season with Paul Francis in the saddle for trainer Everal Francis. Third was Traditional Prince, who prompted the early pace.
The other trophy race, the Keeling Memorial Cup for two-year-olds, went to Klicknplay for the leading trainer of juveniles so far this year, Lorenzo Robinson, who is also the owner and the breeder. Klicknplay was winning his second race and was ridden by Dick Cardenas. Second was the 1/5 favourite Golden Bullet, with third going to Liar Liar.
Cardenas shone on a murky day at the Park with a triple, including Oh My Grandpa at 90/1 for trainer Lee Clarke.
