After using a QUERTY keyboard for writing newspaper columns for a shade over 20 years, it is just in the last few months that it has occurred to me that whenever I think of a word at any place outside of the reach of that keyboard, I spell the word mentally where the letters exist on the keyboard.
I suspect most writers do this, some without even recognising that they are doing it.
