Liar Liar for Keeling Memorial Cup
The final prep for the October start of the 2013 Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Series is on today at Caymanas Park with the running of the $845,000 Keeling Memorial Cup.
Also on the programme is the $786,500 Owen Silvera Memorial Cup for Open Allowance horses, which is designated as the feature on the 11-race card.
The Keeling Memorial Cup opens the programme at 12:10 pm and has attracted a field of six going 1,100 metres and headlined by the Golden Bullet, a $2.3 million purchase at last November’s thoroughbred Yearling Sales.
A bay colt by Western Classic out of the imported Victory Gallop mare, Wap, bred by Everglades, Golden Bullet made an impressive debut over today’s distance. He, however, returns in a tougher spot, but has worked so well that he is expected to continue his winning form.
Prepared for racing by top-two trainer Anthony Nunes, Golden Bullet is owned by W Bagwandeen, Trevor Dunkley Snr, Elias Haloute & Stephen Narinesingh with jockey Shane Ellis remaining the saddle.
His major foe could the filly Liar Liar, who also won going the distance in impressive fashion when riding the bends for the first time after three career starts.
A chestnut filly by Film Director out of the hitherto unimpressive producing mare Hello Bay (Schism) bred by Lorenzo Robinson and owned and trained by Rudolph Hardial, may not be as impressively bred as Golden Bullet, but clocked a decent 1:07.3 minutes for her victory to Golden Bullet’s 1:08.1 minutes going only a kilogramme lighter.
Liar Liar is from a long line of winners on her dam side, including Hello Poochi Liu, who has also thrown Liu Chie Poo, Super Stryfe, winner of the Two-Year-Old Stakes. Since her upset win in August, Liar Liar has shown steady improvement in her workouts and having beaten a much better field than Golden Bullet, should have a serious say in the outcome of the Keeling Memorial.
