Subratie quietly confident
Gary Subratie, the Jamaican-based trainer who also plies his conditioning trade in Trinidad and Tobago, is quietly confident going into today’s Derby at the Santa Rosa Park. Subratie saddles Bigman In Town and Perfect Day .
Subratie, who left the island last week to assist in fine-tuning his charges for the race, said all is well with his horses and he is expecting both to run well.
“There are no problems with the horses, ‘Bigman’ and Perfect Day are well, they have done all we have asked of them going into the Derby, so all we can do now is await the running of the race. I expect them to perform at their best, and if they do so, then I will be happy, although we definitely want to win,” the trainer said.
Bigman In Town is scheduled to be ridden by top-rated American rider Javier Castellano. Castellano tuned up for the T&T Derby with five winners at Belmont Park, New York, on Saturday.
