Thomas to testify in Bicknell, Forbes trial
FORMER Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas is to be one of the prosecution’s two final witnesses to be called in the perverting the course of justice trial against businessman Bruce Bicknell and Senior Superintendent James Forbes.
Thomas was scheduled to give evidence in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday but his appearance was rescheduled for October 15 as he is just coming off major surgery.
The other witness scheduled for October 15 is head of the police’s Anti-Corruption Branch, Superintendent Selwyn Hay.
Thomas is to give evidence, as he is said to have advised the policeman who Bicknell is alleged to have bribed, to mediate the matter. The result of the mediation meeting in April 2012 resulted in bribery charges against Bicknell for a road traffic offence being dropped.
Bicknell and Forbes were charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice as a result of that meeting.
Bicknell was arrested on April 9, 2012 and charged with bribery after he was stopped by sergeant Jubert Llewellyn and ticketed for speeding.
Last Thursday, Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis completed his time in the witness box.
Inspector Rohan Reid, the officer who investigated the case also gave evidence.
