Soca couple for Guinness show
SOCA couple Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons are anticipating an exciting performance at the Arthur Guinness Day concert scheduled for the National Indoors Sports Centre in St Andrew on Thursday.
“Our fans in person and screen viewers can look forward to another dimension made of fun and hype. We are very spontaneous and aggressive when it comes to the stage, but suave with it at well. Songs to sing and energy to bring,” said Garlin.
The Trinidad and Tobago wife-and-husband team are among several high-profile artistes booked to perform at the annual event.
The Arthur Guinness Day is held in honour of the Irish businessman/philanthropist who founded the world-famous Guinness brewery in the 18th century.
Now in its fifth year, the ‘Day’ takes place in 55 countries this year.
Approximately $1.5 million from the Arthur Guinness Fund has been committed to five projects in Jamaica.
“We are in applause of any programme that develops any group for the betterment of humankind. We spearhead many projects back home of the same nature. It is our duty because as human beings we are to ensure that we take care of our people which is really a mirror image of us taking care of ourselves,” Garlin said.
Garlin, given name Ian Alvarez, has won Trinidad’s Soca Monarch/International Soca Monarch) competition on several occasions. He is known for hits including No Apology, Raise Yuh Hand, Fire Fi Dem, and Diffrentlogy.
His wife, Fay-Ann Lyons, is the first female to win the Trinidad and Tobago National Road March title three times. Her hits include Misbehave, Ah Something, Start Wining, and Call Me.
