JAMAICAN golfing pro Wesley Brown continued his fine showing yesterday shooting a three under par 69 for a two of 137, to tie for fifth place at the Meadowland Classic, the final event of the 2013 Carolina Summer Golf Series in the USA.

Brown finished five strokes behind champion American Ryan Sullivan, who carded a 65 yesterday, following up on his 67 on Thursday for a score of 132. Brown shot a 68 yesterday and started the day in third place.

The local pro started like a house on fire, birdying three holes on the front nine to close on 33, but faltered in the back nine coming home in 36.

In an interview, Brown said he was pleased with his round and could have gone even lower, but costly errors on the back nine ruined his chances at claiming the title.

“I was looking to post a lower score today (yesterday), but I am happy with the way I played,” he noted.

Dave Reid, Brown’s mentor who is also general manager of the Sandals Golf and Country Club, expressed pleasure at the young golfer’s performance on tour so far.

“Wesley is beginning to settle in and be much more comfortable. We anticipate even more improved performances in the tournaments ahead,” Reid said.

The young golfers 10-week trip is being sponsored to the tune of US$30,000 by Sandals Resorts International. Brown is currently employed at the Sandals Golf and Country Club.

The tournament is part of the National Golf Association Pro Golf Tour, which is the number three Men’s Professional Golf Tour in the United States after the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour and is the number one recommended developmental tour by more PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour Professionals.
