Burrell renews call for development of Frome Sports Complex
WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Football Association (JFF) Captain Horace Burrell has renewed his call for Roger Clarke, the member of parliament for Central Westmoreland, to transform the Frome Sports Complex into a mini- stadium, suitable to host international football games.
“I am calling on Minister Roger Clarke to upgrade the Frome Sports Complex into a good football mini-stadium where we can bring international football to Frome. It is an ideal location, and the people here are crying out for a facility,” the JFF boss declared.
Clarke, who is also the minister of agriculture, could not be reached for a comment yesterday.
More than three years ago the JFF president had made a similar call on Clarke for the Frome Sports Complex to be upgraded.
In the meantime, Burrell who stoutly defended the achievements of the current JFF administration, underscored the need for politicians to render their assistance to establish better playing fields across the island.
“If we were to get better football fields our youngsters would indeed be much better off, and believe me, we would more competitive at the higher level,” he argued.
Burrell was speaking during the Captain’s Bakery Annual Presentation and Awards ceremony held at the Sandals Whitehouse European Villa and Spa in Westmoreland last week.
Sandals Whitehouse, champions of the Roger Clarke Knock-out and the Westmoreland FA Captain’s Bakery and Grill 2012-2013 Major League, were the toast of the night.
Burrell lauded the major league champions as well as Chairman of Sandals Resort International, Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart.
“I want to congratulate all the awardees, those who have won prizes for the night, in particular Sandals Whitehouse. I know the Honourable Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart, who is a good friend of mine, is a man who likes sports. And I know his heart is into football. Congratulations, Sandals Whitehouse,” said Burrell.
