Rajiv Margah, Castellano square off in Trini Derby
TOP American-based jockey Javier Castellano will be aboard leading owner Shivam Maharaj’s Woden in the sixth race on the 11-race Republic Day card (Tuesday, September 24) at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
The trip on Woden will be the first of three for Castellano. His other rides on the day are Readbetweendlines in the 1,350-metre NGC Diamond Stakes and Bigman In Town in the TT$500,000 NGC CNG Trinidad Derby Stakes, feature event on Tuesday’s holiday card.
Jamaica’s Rajiv Maragh, who is also competing on the American circuit with great success, will have his first ride at Santa Rosa aboard Silverleo for trainer John O’Brien in the sixth race, while his other rides are Crime of Passion in the 1,350-metre NGC Diamond Stakes, Prince Zeshan in the 2,000-metre NGC CNG Trinidad Derby Stakes, and Tradition Girl.
Top rated local rider Shane Ellis is also riding on the day. Ellis will pilot Trini Oaks winner Perfect Day for trainer Gary Subratie. He will have another five rides on the Derby Day programme.
Allen ‘Bongo John’ Maragh, the uncle of Rajiv, who rides and trains in Florida is on board Fire Light in the Derby as well as having secured five other rides on the day.
