Bureau of Women’s Affairs to host ICT training for women
The Bureau of Women’s Affairs, in partnership with
the Dispute Resolution Foundation (DRF), will host women to two days of key learnings in the virtual economy this weekend.
The full-day sessions, titled the Web Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (WEB) are slated for this Saturday and Sunday at the University of Technology (UTECH) and are being implemented under the organisation’s “The Way Out Project” — a gender mainstreaming initiative which has trained over 190 pre-micro and micro entrepreneurs across the island in order to help women in informal businesses develop competencies for expanding and formalising their economic activities.
“This session is an opportunity for women to network while getting advice and training from industry experts, learn how to use the Internet to boost income and increase their technology use in order to better manage and track business activities,” the organisers said in a press release.
Day one is designed to introduce attendees to the basics of computer literacy, with morning and afternoon sessions focused on getting comfortable with productivity software such as Word and Excel as well as learning to use the Internet, E-mails, Website/Webpage Social Media.
On day two, the participants will begin to learn how to apply and maximise their newly acquired knowledge of computers and the Internet to create financial opportunities. Sessions for that day will explore issues such as the bridge between tradition and virtual businesses; address common myths and fears associated with the Internet and help the women develop the mindset of the Web Entrepreneur.
