TSO Countdowns… Making Waves
TSO reporter Curt Cawley catches up with All Wet Beachwear’s President and Chief Merchandising Officer Racquel Black in her nautical-themed, beach cabin-inspired Kingston showroom, awashed in/with navys and whites to chat ‘-kinis’ and their upcoming block party for Thursday, September 19.
What’s the genesis of your store’s name?
Well, the name of my store began as a business plan for my master’s degree; from there it took on a life of its own, once I began implementing all the ideas.
How long have you been in the retail industry?
All Wet Beachwear (AWB) has been in operation for 4 years; we began as an online store based out of South Florida; then due to overwhelming demand, we opened a showroom location in Jamaica.
What keeps you interested in the business of fashion?
Fashion is a big part of my life, I start my day with Women’s Wear Daily trade journal — the industry bible for international fashion and retail executives. I’m always interested in keeping abreast and informed with all aspects of the business, across the globe and constantly taking cues and looking for innovative and creative ways of improving AWB, each and everyday.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style marries the classics with comfort; I believe a woman should be well-dressed but not look like she is trying too hard.
What lines do you carry?
AWB should be your number one swimwear destination. We carry all the leading brands of fine quality bikinis, maillots, monokinis or tankinis. We breathe swimwear and we will help you fall in love with your body!
Which are the fastest-moving lines?
Our fast movers are Lulifama, Agua Bendita, Despi & L Space — these seriously don’t stay in stock!
What can customers expect from All Wet Beachwear on Thursday,
September 19, when The Jamaica Observer Takes Style Out?
We will be hosting a happening block party for TSO shoppers, where we’ll be offering deep discounts on our current season’s stock, which naturally makes room for the upcoming one! There will be music, finger food, refreshment, swag bags with purchases and giveaways from our sponsors.
Share a few retail tips for Thursday, September 19.
First off — make a plan: Our TSO sale will attract a crowd, so it won’t be a great time for window shopping; do that before Thursday. You probably won’t find that one swimsuit you have been longing for if you wait until the end of the night; don’t make us your last stop. Also, remember that you will be trying on a lot of swimwear; wear easy clothing and shoes that can just be slipped on and off. And finally, after you have snagged your must-have piece, relax and enjoy our block party, right outside!
