KINGSTON, Jamaica – After 1,127 responses to the Jamaica Observer poll “Should students be barred from school for wearing the wrong type of shoes?” 65 per cent said students should be.
The weeklong poll saw 35 per cent of respondents saying that students should not be barred from school for wearing the wrong type of shoes.
On September 10, the start of the new school year, principal of the Red Hills Road-based high school, Calabar, barred several students from entering the compound because they were wearing footwear that breached the school’s regulations.
School officials said they had other problem areas at the institution but added that while they have made inroads in the other areas, students continue to wear footwear deemed improper, totally disregarding rules pertaining to shoes.
