STETHS hit Lacovia for six
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) kept up their torrid pace to start the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup football season with their second straight 6-0 win in four days, blanking Lacovia High in Santa Cruz yesterday.
After a similar margin of victory over Maggotty High on Wednesday, Khesanio Hall and Jovan James both scored hat-tricks to lead STETHS, as Hall took his tally of goals to five, in just two games, and his team to impressive back-to-back victories.
James was, however, later sent off, along with Lacovia’s Kadeem Stone in the 86th minute.
Meanwhile, four other former champions also scored their second straight wins, as defending champions Glenmuir High were held goal-less by another former champion, Garvey Maceo, in their Zone M game.
Jelani Nicholson scored an 87th minute header for St James High to punish a wasteful Cornwall College in their Zone A top-of-the-table clash at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Cornwall dominated the first half and created several scoring chances, but failed to score and were made to pay when they were beaten for the third straight year by St James High in the homecoming game at the same venue.
Frome Technical High hammered Irwin High 5-1 in Zone B, as Jermaine Clarke led the way with a double, and Rusea’s High were held 1-1 by Green Island High in the other game in the zone.
Munro College stayed perfect with a 2-0 win away to Balaclava High, while Clarendon College were 3-1 winners over Claude McKay High.
Grange Hill High, last season’s Ben Francis KO runners-up, had the largest margin of victory on the day, swamping Little London High 8-0 in Zone D with Akeem Shackleford scoring three times.
In the other Zone D game, former winners Godfrey Stewart surprised Manning’s School 2-0 in their Sav derby, with Michael Kerr in the 63rd minute and Romario Graham in the 76th minute scoring to ensure that they snapped a four-game winless run over the Aaron Lawrence-coached team, a semi-finalist last season.
Happy Grove are the leaders in Zone L with back-to-back wins after their 2-0 win over Annotto Bay, while Fair Prospect beat 10-man Titchfield, also by a 2-0 margin.
