JITSA names executive board
THE Jamaica Information Technology and Services Alliance (JITSA) has taken another step towards cementing itself as the go-to body representing Jamaica’s information technology industry, by selecting an executive board.
According to JITSA President Mervyn Eyre, the board will serve for a one-year period and will be responsible for growing the organisation while promoting JITSA’s agenda of fostering a fertile environment and allowing Jamaica’s IT sector to contribute more significantly to economic growth.
“The organisation is interested in creating awareness with regard to the importance of the industry to Jamaica’s economy and will contribute to the national dialogue on issues related to the IT sector including regulation and policy direction,” Eyre said.
CEO of the Private Sector organisation (PSOJ) Dennis Chung, has said that through JITSA’s advocacy efforts and collective action, “we expect to see increased adoption and use of the Internet in the next decade, more information technology, innovation and an increased number of successful IT related projects”.
His sentiments were echoed by President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Francis ‘Paco’ Kennedy, who noted that it is very fortunate that the IT industry has now formed JITSA to carry the industry forward.
“It is the right time,” Kennedy said.
JITSA seeks to leverage its significant access to knowledge capital to educate and inform Jamaicans on what is one of the most important industries within the society: information technology.
JITSA was launched in July and currently represents over 30 companies, both local and international, including the membership of organisations such as the Jamaica Computer Society (JCS) and the Jamaica Information Technology & Communications Association (JITCA).
