Golden Bullet takes an early shot
ON a day without any trophy races, it was left to the two-year-olds to once again take centre stage on the 11-race programme offered at Caymanas Park yesterday.
First-time runner Golden Bullet (Western Classic – Wap), ridden by Shane Ellis made a creditable start to his racing career when he easily put aside his five rivals to win over 1,100 metres in a respectable time of 1:08.3 minutes.
Golden Bullet is trained by Anthony Nunes. Second five lengths behind, was Santana, with third spot going to Flight Director, the early leader in the race.
Former many-times champion trainer Phillip Feanny continued his recent good form, when he saddled Naturally Evil to victory in the day’s seventh event over 1,600 metres. Ridden by Paul Francis, Naturally Evil was never far off the early splits set by Admiral Snow, and Royal Vibes. When Naturally Evil was asked to move passing the 800-metre marker, he did so readily and entered the straight with a three-length advantage. Francis kept him up to his work to hold the late challenges of Royal Vibes (second) and Princess Shaniel (third). The 1,600-metre journey was covered by Naturally Evil in a time of 1:39.0 minutes.
Champion jockey Dane Nelson rode home the last double, races 10 and 11, with Diamond Princess and Man Alive, respectively. Trainer Richard Azan took the trainers’ honours for the day with the same two winners
as Nelson.
